Hamburger à la Normande
This Normandy-inspired hamburger combines a juicy beef patty with sautéed apples and onions, a creamy mustard sauce and melted Camembert. The result balances savory, sweet and tangy flavors.
Ingredients
- 4 hamburger buns
- 500 g ground beef
- 1 tart apple, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 120 g Camembert, sliced
- 120 ml heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and black pepper
Preparation
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and shape them into patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the onion until softened, then add the apple slices and sauté until lightly golden. Transfer to a plate.
- Cook the patties in the same skillet until browned and cooked to your preferred doneness.
- Reduce the heat. Stir the cream and Dijon mustard into the pan juices, then simmer briefly until the sauce lightly coats a spoon.
- Top each patty with Camembert and cover the skillet for a minute or two, allowing the cheese to soften.
- Toast the buns, then assemble each burger with a patty, sautéed apple and onion, and a spoonful of mustard cream sauce.
Serving Suggestions
Serve immediately with a green salad, roasted potatoes or crisp fries. For a sharper contrast, add a small handful of dressed arugula or a few cornichons.
